Dennis Tashiro | President, Windward Buddhist Temple
Dear Members & Friends
Aloha!
Although my current term as Windward Buddhist Temple (WBT) president is about to end, in January 2025, I will begin another two-year term as WBT president. With the Buddha and Dharma as guides and along with fellow officers, I'll continue to serve the temple Sangha.
With the retirement of Rev. Sol Kalu in July, Windward Buddhist Temple is now in a new era without a resident minister. Bishop Umitani has committed to supporting our temple and its members. He has appointed Rev. Shingo Furusawa of Hawaii Betsuin as the liaison minister for WBT.
Rev. Shingo Furusawa
Rev. Shingo Furusawa became the Liaison Minister of Windward Buddhist Temple in August 2025. Watch Rev. Furusawa’s Dharma Talk and read his newsletter message.

COVID-19 Temple Advisory
As of May 23, 2021, the City & County of Honolulu is allowing religious entities to open beyond Minimum Basic Operations. We have carefully reopened the temple and restarted many of the temple programs. Weekly In-person Sunday Dharma Services began in January 2022.
COVID-19 has provided us many opportunities to realize the Buddha’s teaching of impermanence, interdependency, and compassion as we all help each other through this global pandemic. Please follow the CDC guidelines and keep each other safe.
