Temple Activities

Schedules and space availability vary for each activity. COVID-19 requirements, such as masking, vary by activity. Please contact the instructor listed for each activity prior to attending to confirm the schedule and whether they are accepting new participants.

Lead by: Rev. Bert Sumikawa

Thursdays from 5 - 6 pm

Included in the session is a guided meditation, walking meditation and offering of incense, followed by chanting of a sutra. There also is a short “talk story” section immediately following. 

Meditation is conducted by Rev. Dr. Bert Sumikawa. If you are interested in attending, please contact Rev. Sumikawa by calling (808) 492-7254 or by clicking on the “Contact Instructor” button.

Meditation is a Jodo Shinshu style (Hongwanji or Pure Land sect) of Buddhism. All are welcome, members and non-members, Buddhists and non-Buddhists. There is no fee to attend.

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:30 am

 

Exercise class is on a holiday break through the end of the year.

Our tai chi classes have been very popular and we now offer classes for various levels of experience. Class A: First & third Wednesday of each month, 2:00 to 4:00 pm

Class B: Second & Fourth Wednesday of each month, 2:00 to 4:00 pm

This class is open to all levels. Students are to provide their own flowers, vase, & kenzan/frog.

Fee:

  • Ikebana class fees are for 3 months or 6 classes, payable on first class of each session

  • WBT Members: $78 per session (temple fee waived)

  • Non-WBT Members: $78 per session + $12 temple fee

What is Bon Fitness? This class teaches various Bon Dance repertoires in conjunction with modern Bon Dance music. The body movements and memorization of the dance steps provide you with the “fitness” aspect of the dance. The community is welcome to participate.

Cost: $3 per class (non-WBT members)
