Rev. Jan Youth: Rev. Jan grew up in a Hongwanji family on Kauai where much of her childhood was spent participating in temple activities from Sunday services, Jr. YBA, scouting, and Japanese language classes. This participation continued at Mililani Hongwanji where she served as a dharma school leacher and officer on the temple board.
Rev. Jan graduated from the UH Manoa College of Education and had a 30 year career with the Hawaii State Dept. of Education in teaching and administrative positions in the Central Oahu district. She retired in 1995.
Her pursuit of the Buddhist ministry began in the 1980s while taking part in seminars and summer sessions. This led to her attaining her tokudo ordination in 1994 and kyoshi in 1997. She served as a minister at Hawaii Betsuin and retired in 2004.
