Reverend Shinkai Murakami
Rev. Shinkai Murakami studied Jodo Shinshu at the Central Buddhist Institute in Kyoto before joining the Hopa Hongwanji Missions of Hawaii and relocated to Hawaii in December of 1985.
He holds several Hongwanji special licenses. Jun-san (for chanting of sutra at Hongwanji in Kyoto), Hoon-ko Shiki Tandoku Mon (to read Abbot Kakunyo's letter at Hoonko Service at Honzan), Fujiyoshi (Professional Propagator's License in Japan.
Since arriving in Hawaii, he has served at Hilo Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Kapaa Hongwanji and Pearl City Hongwanji. He is currently the resident minister of Wailuku Hongwanji on Maui.
Rev. Murakami serves on the following Hongwanji Committees: as Samu of Bishop's Advisory Committee, on the Buddhist Education Committee, Hongwanji School Committee and the Personnel Committee.
He is an avid sports lover, especially baseball. His favorite team is the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rev. & Mrs. Murakami have three children and three grandchildren.
