Rev. David Nakamoto delivering the Dharma Talk at the Peace Day Service on September 25, 2016

Today's Family Sunday Service recognized two important events: Peace Day in Hawaii, which was on Wednesday, September 21, and the Autumn Ohigan (Equinox), an observation of the seasonal change from Summer to Autumn.

Rededication Service

Today's Family Service at Kailua Hongwanji was also a Rededication Service. The Dharma Talk was given by Rev. Irene Nakamoto. She asked the congregation to discuss how how we are rededicating ourselves in embracing change and creating engagement, this year's Hongwanji theme.

Sunday Dharma Service

At our Sunday Family Service, Reverend David Nakamoto reflected on two events that occurred on this date, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack and the 24th anniversary of Hurricane Iniki striking the islands.

Sunday Dharma Service

In our final Sunday service for the summer, Reverend David Nakamoto gave a Dharma Talk on the subject of mindfulness.

There will be no Sunday services during the month of August. The next Sunday service will be our First Sunday Family Service on September 4, 2016.

Sunday Dharma Service

Today's speaker was Joy Nishida, who shared her thoughts on Obon and gratitude through a photo slideshow of bon dances at Kailua Hongwanji and Kona Hongwanji, the latter held in the wake of Tropical Storm Darby on July 23.

Hatsubon Service

Our Hatsubon Service was held on Sunday, July 10 at the temple. The Hatsubon commemorates the first obon since the passing of a loved one.

First Sunday Dharma Service

At our "First Sunday Dharma Service" on July 3, the youngens made these cool lanterns in honor of obon!
